abc PocketPhonics Literacy App marks 5th Anniversary with new version

Apps in My Pocket marks its fifth anniversary today, and to celebrate this milestone, the company is offering the full version of abc PocketPhonics free to download on February 7th. Aligned with the Common Core State Standards, PocketPhonics is used in hundreds of elementary schools and pre-schools to teach kids letter sounds, first words and handwriting. As the child learns new groups of letter sounds, certificates of achievement can be emailed, and printed or shared on social media.

Advanced online progress tracking:
Parents and teachers track online the words and sounds the child is currently learning. Once a child has learnt a word is removed from the list of words the app is teaching them. It is then replaced by another word, until they have learnt all the words in that group of letter sounds.

Downloadable progress reports:
PocketPhonics already has teacher friendly features, like centralised progress tracking for groups and classes. Due to popular request, the new version now allows teachers to download progress reports as a spread sheet for more detailed analysis.

Five years of innovation:
The first version of abc PocketPhonics was released five years ago, making it one of the longest surviving Apps on the Apple App Store. It has revolutionised tablet based learning, by bringing phonics to a new platform. In addition to setting reward levels and denominations, the user can disable certain features such as showing the prices or score during play.

Version 9.1 includes several new features such as non-destructive image editing and undo in the browser.
A new Cocooner editing mode allows users to make modifications to the image appearance while keeping their original image data unchanged. As a result, users can adjust the brightness and contrast of an image, crop and rotate it, save it, and then revert the image to its original state at any time in the future or continue editing it without any loss of quality. GraphicConverter will also export the altered image to all of the supported formats.

In the newest version of GraphicConverter, most of the file and folder operations performed in the application's own browser can be undone. For example, if a file or folder is deleted accidentally, the user can press Command-Z or choose Undo from the Edit menu to restore it.

There are a variety of additions including the ability to drag vertical or horizontal by pressing the shift key, modifications to the menus and toolbox, and browsing capability of local copies of cloud services like DropBox, SkyDrive, Copy, Amazon Cloud and Google Drive. GraphicConverter also has the ability to convert to color profile and extract images from PDF to concert and modify. Additional new features include:

Melody Pro offers users two different ways to create sheet music on their mobile devices. One option is to drag-and-drop the musical notation on to the blank sheet music page shown on the screen. Users can select a variety of note values including whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes. There is also a choice of treble or bass clefs.

Users also have the option to play a virtual piano keyboard that instantly notates the music and its value being performed on the screen. Compositions can be immediately played back, saved for later, and emailed. Notes can easily be deleted by tapping the back arrow button.

Sheet music that is created can be saved in a collections folder that can be accessed by tapping the button with a folder icon on it. From the Sheet Music Collections folder, users can import additional sheet music by utilizing the camera feature of their iOS device. After tapping the camera icon in the top right corner and taking the picture, the image is added to the Sheets directory. All images are organized by timestamp and can be quickly accessed by tapping the image's name. Melody Pro displays the sheet music with the virtual piano underneath so users can play the music from the sheet music image. The image can be easily rotated in any direction by tapping the Rotate button.

Melody Pro also contains an advanced tuner and metronome. Users tap the "Start Listening" button to activate the tuner. The app will report the note being played and the A4 Calibration. When the tuner is ready to analyze another note, it will return to 440.0 Hz calibration. The metronome also possesses simple controls for the user to operate. The tempo value can be increased or decreased by tapping the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons.
